  29.      Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect who are sojourners of the
  30. Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, according to
  31. the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, unto
  32. obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace
  33. be multiplied.

  35.      Blessed be ^1 the God and Father of our lord Jesus Christ, who according
  36. to his great mercy begat us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of
  37. Jesus Christ from the dead, unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled,
  38. and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who by the power of God
  39. are guarded through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last
  40. time.  Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be,
  41. ye have been put to grief in manifold ^2 trials, that the proof of your faith,
  42. being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may
  43. be found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ:
  44. whom not having seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet
  45. believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and ^3 full of glory:
  46. receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Concerning
  47. which salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of
  48. the grace that should come unto you: searching what time or what manner of
  49. time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did point unto, when it testified
  50. beforehand the sufferings ^4 of Christ, and the glories that should follow
  51. them.  To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did
  52. they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through
  53. them that ^5 preached the gospel unto you ^6 by the Holy Spirit sent forth
  54. from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

  68.      Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober and set your hope
  69. perfectly on the grace that ^7 is to be brought unto you at the revelation of
  70. Jesus Christ; as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to
  71. your former lusts in the time of your ignorance: but ^8 like as he who called
  72. you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living; because it is
  73. written, ^9 Ye shall be holy; for I am holy.  And if ye call on him as Father,
  74. who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man's work, pass the
  75. time of your sojourning in fear: knowing that ye were redeemed, not with
  76. corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed
  77. down from your fathers; but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish
  78. and without spot, even the blood of Christ: who was foreknown indeed before
  79. the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of the times for
  80. your sake, who through him are believers in God, that raised him from the
  81. dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.  Seeing
  82. ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth unto unfeigned love
  83. of the brethren, love one another ^1 from the heart fervently: having been
  84. begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the
  85. word of ^2 God, which liveth and abideth. For,

  87.      ^3 All flesh is as grass,
  88.      And all the glory thereof as the flower of grass.
  89.      The grass withereth, and the flower falleth:
  90.      But the ^4 word of the Lord abideth for ever.
